The Aqua-Trend Evolution automatic top off systems are perhaps the most intriguing products of the new Polish manufacturer, mainly because it breaks away from the usual float switch or pressure sensor. Instead the Aqua-Trend Evolution systems are able to read the water level using light sensors straight to the glass (up to 10mm or ~ 3/8′”).
How exactly the system works we’re not entirely sure since Aqua-Trend doesn’t provide much information on their website, but it appears to use a laser (or something similar) to measure the water height. The unit then responds and adds water with the dosing pump (or third party pump depending on configuration.) The Aqua-Trend Evolution auto top off system each contain two sensors, the second providing backup in case the first one fails. In case you are really paranoid a third one could be added.
The Aqua-Trend Evolution automatic top off systems come in two different variations, the Shark Evolution and the Levelautomatic Evolution. The first including a peristaltic pump, while the latter can be used with third party pumps. Aqua-Trend sells a more entry level top off system as well, the Levelautomatic which uses regular float switches.
The automatic top off systems are currently not yet available in the US, but it appears Aqua-Trend does have a North American distributor Reefomania, so we might see them appear very soon. [nggallery id=889]
