Seachem’s NutriDiet flake foods are getting four new flavors — MarinePlus, Chlorella Flakes, Discus and Shrimp Flakes. The new line of flake foods eliminates low-value fillers to offer high nutritional value for your fish plus are fortified with garlic, chlorella, and extra Vitamin C.
The new Seachem NutriFlake MarinePlus is similar to the regular Marine flake but is fortified with plankton, krill and chlorella. Like spirulina, chlorella is a micro algae that yields a bit less protein when dried but has the ability to bind with heavy metals (mercury, lead, and cadmium) to provide detoxifying properties.
The new Chlorella Flakes provide a significant portion of chlorella to provide a high-protein diet with the additional benefits chlorella provides. Research shows when dried, chlorella has about 45% protein, 20% fat, 20% carbohydrate, 5% fibre, and 10% minerals and vitamins. Just to compare, spirulina contains about 60% protein.
Seachem’s Shrimp Flakes are one of the only shrimp flakes not to use brine shrimp. The new food appears to be a flake version of the river shrimp (Macrobrachium nipponense) used in the Seachem Naturals line of foods.
