The new BioTek Marineproduct line from Aquarium Specialty just saw the addition of a few products to make coral propogation a bit easier as the company released four styles of frag mounts and a frag rack system. Although nothing revolutionary, the frag mounts are made from quality materials at a decent price. The coral frag mounts range from a disc to micro mounts designed to maximize real estate on your eggcrate frag rack.
All mounts are made from ceramic, sport a natural color, have grooves for better glue (and coral) adhesion and don’t need to be cured. The flat discs are perfect for larger sized pieces, especially for you plating corals or chalices you may stick on the bottom of the tank. Additionally, there are two sizes of frag plugs — a standard size and a larger size — to give you more options based on the size of your frags.
The one that really caught our eye were the micro-mount plugs that easily fit in an eggcrate frag system that minimizes the size to ensure you can fit more frags in your rack. These will come in handy with smaller frags here you want to yield more frags from your mother colony and are planning on growing them out for a longer period of time. The BioTeck Marine Frag Mounts retail starting at $12.49.
The final piece of the puzzle is the 2 ft. x. 2 ft. eggcrate frag system. This too is simple in nature and for the DIYers out there, you probably have already sourced all the parts needed to make your own system. However, if you don’t want to deal with the standard white eggcrate and white or grey PVC we get from the big box stores, take a closer look. The heavy, furniture grade black PVC offers a better visual and you can cut the legs to fit your system. The eggcrate is just zip-tied to the frame so you can easily take it apart for cleaning if needed. This BioTek Marine Frag Rack retails for $28.99 at Aquarium Specialty
