hw-Marinemix, one of the industry’s oldest salt mix brands is now more readily available thanks to the team at Bulk Reef Supply that began carrying the German brand of synthetic salt mix. Although this company has been around since 1968 making it one of the early brands of synthetic sea salt available on the market, many hobbyist might not be familiar with hw-Marinemix. But there is a good reason to pay attention if you want a high-quality, lab-grade salt mix that is time-tested and widely used.
As with other premium salt mixes, you will pay more but there is good reason with the hw-Marinemix salt mix. Instead of relying on mined or evaporated salt that can introduce impurities and unwanted environmental contaminants, hw-Marinemix is 100% synthetic salt mix formulated with each individual element to ensure the final product is consistent and free from impurities.
There are two version of the salt, hw-Marinemix Reefer for reef systems and hw-Marinemix Professional Salt Mix designed for broader applications. After being mixed onsite, the BRS team found that hw-Marinemix Reefer measures calcium at 445-450 ppm, alkalinity of 9.0 dKH and magnesium at 1380 ppm. We assume this was mixed up around 35 ppm.
