When it comes to All In One aquariums, reef tanks have taken a definitive stance in one direction while planted tanks have taken a very different path. By and large AIO saltwater tanks are dominated by plastic parts, hoods, and equipment popped out of molds by the thousands while freshwater all in one aquariums are defined more by glass and steel which are crafted by hand in much smaller numbers.
Granted, many of the basic AIO aquariums can be used for both planted and reef tanks, and the corrosive nature of saltwater precludes certain materials from being used, but we don’t understand why it has to be all or nothing when it comes to either a freshwater or saltwater all in one aquarium. Red Sea made great strides in the AIO space last week when they introduced their Reefer line of tank, stand & sump kits but these are hardly complete, ready to go aquarium kits.
The Aquavas line of aquariums made in Portugal and distributed in the U.S. by Aquarium Design Group are a complete All in One show aquarium for planted aquariums which show the level of fit and finish we’d love to see in a marine aquarium. The high clarity, trimless glass aquarium is supported by a furniture-grade stand and straddled by a stainless steel light and pendant making it looks like it belongs in the finer part of a finer house.
The Aquavas tanks come stock with stainless steel inlet and outlet tubes, a stainless steel canister filter driven by a cute Japanese Iwaki pump and a ‘luminaire’ with a classic-modern look but which is powered by a field of LEDs that can easily be replaced in time. There’s also options for a top of the line Green Leaf Aquarium CO2 regulator and inline glass diffuser – all parts that simply can’t be bested, and it really isn’t that expensive in the grand scheme of things.
The 65cm Aquavas all in one aquarium pictured here sells for $2400 with generous margin to resellers and includes drop-ship pricing to the end user! What we’re trying to say is to encourage more manufacturers to take inspiration from AIO aquariums like the Aquavas and give the reefing world a complete reef aquarium setup that is both modern and timeless, we know you can do it.
