Menjangan is a small island off the North West coast of Bali. Menjangan is a popular day trip and has many beautiful dive sites. The small island of Menjangan is surrounded by a vibrant corals reef that fridges the islands shores.
Menjangan is a great dive trip for both newly certifies divers and advanced divers. There are several entry point for dives around the island and it is best to hire a local divemaster to guide your dive. Each diver will have to pay 200,000 Rupee to enter the park about $15 USD.
If you are driving to Menjangan, you will arrive at the Bali Barat National Park and there you can pay your entrance fee, hire a boat and a local guide. You will want to check with your hotel or with the dive center at your hotel to see if they are organizing a trip to Menjangan. Unless you are 4 or more divers renting your own boat may not be the cheapest option.
The dive sites around the Island start at 3m (10feet) and the reef wall drops of quickly down to 30m (100 feet). The reef wall is covered in sponges and sea fans and we found lots of branching and encrusting corals. Near the top of the reef we found large boulder porites corals, and fields of sarcophyton, toadstool leather corals.
Although we have noticed a decline in coral coverage at Menjangan the dives are definitely worth the trip out. We saw large schools of fish, a small white tip shark, rays and a sea turtle. The water was crystal clear when we visited and we loved the quaint wooden boat.
Ask to go around the east side of the island and there is an impressive temple and a Buddha statue you can see from your boat. If you are looking for coral we would recommend the starting a Temple point and drifting down the coral garden wall.
