With just four days left to go, Fishbit has exceeded their crowdfunding goal of nearly $72,000 on Kickstarter. This is a huge success not only for Fishbit but for the future of aquarium controllers and having more and better connected reef aquariums in general.
While MindStream and OceanSwipe didn’t reach their crowdfunding goals, they are still pushing forward with bringing their innovations to the aquarium world. Thankfully, by meeting their funding goal on Kickstarter, Fishbit’s has a much clearer path to commercializing the first official version of their controller and monitor.
With so many entrenched companies in the aquarium hobby, many of which have deep financial and resource investments in their current products, it’s quite easy for them to lose sight of what constitutes meaningful innovation. Thankfully, with the power of the internet and crowdfunding, Fishbit and a whole new generation of entrepreneurs have the chance to make their mark on the hobby.
You still have a few days to back the Fishbit Kickstarter project by getting a controller, monitor or both, at deeply discounted prices compared to when they will actually go on sale. Check out our full review of the Fishbit controller and monitor system, we for one can’t wait until the Fishbits start shipping in August. [Kickstarter]
