The Low Boy is an interesting new breeder aquarium from Zoo Med which is destined to be the hobby’s new favorite frag tank. This 50 gallon aquarium has an area of 48 by 24 inches, but it is only 10 inches tall!
This low and flat breeder tank, aptly named the ‘Low Boy’ is the perfect aquarium for a variety of different aquarium applications and it’s a wonder that a tank like this has never been mass-produced before. The huge surface area of the Zoo Med Low Boy Frag Tank makes it uniquely suited to holding the most amount of frags in the smallest volume possible.
A wide flat tank like this is also great for growing macroalgae, keeping a bunch of Tridacna clams, and it will be especially welcomed at reef conference and frag swap events where working aquarium tables like this are in high demand. The hobby has been making small quantities of tanks like this for years now, but these one-offs are usually made of acrylic, and by hand, making them more expensive than conventional breeder type aquariums.
Thankfully with the mass production of the Low Boy 50 gallon frag tank, slash breeder aquarium, Zoo Med is able to offer the Low Boy at a price of around $135 depending on your market and where you live. We just found out about the existence of the Low Boy and just in time too because it looks like it’ll be a perfect fit for some new coral tables of our own, so we’ll let you know our impressions of the Zoo Med when we finally see this tank in person.
