AutoAqua is an aquarium company which has made a name for itself . . . by really living up to its name. If there’s a device or a function to be automated in a reef tank, AutoAqua probably has a gizmo for it and this week they are ready to launch a couple more.
First revealed in prototype form at InterZoo at the beginning of the summer, the final versions of AutoAqua’s Smart AWC Touch automatic water change system and their Smart Security System are ready for prime time. This weekend at MACNA in San Diego we’ll be able to get a good look at the final versions of AutoAqua’s two newest gizmos for keeping your tank safe from overflows, and for automating water changes of your aquarium.
First up is the Smart AWC Touch, a complete system for automating water changes to your aquarium. Using a series of pumps, the Smart AWC Touch will drain your tank or sump to a desired level, using miniature water level sensors the likes of which AutoAqua pioneered with their various ATO products.
Once the water has been drained to the preset level, an external pump in your water change reservoir will then automatically refill the tank until the second high level sensor turns it off. Using this same method the Smart AWC Touch can also function as an automatic top off device, using a third pump in a freshwater top off reservoir.
Next up is AutoAqua’s Smart Security system, which is an insurance policy against common aquarium malfunctions. The Smart Security System is essentially a trio of different power switches which are pre-programmed to turn off some basic aquarium devices.
The Smart Skimmer Security is an optical float switch that magnetically couples to your skimmer cup, and will shut off the skimmer pump should the skimmate level get too high. The Smart Level Security is the inverse of the previous device, which turns off any device in case of the water level getting too low, this could be a pump, skimmer or heater.
Finally the Smart Temp Security is a redundancy switch for your heating element which will automatically turn off your heater in case the temperature gets too high. Interestingly, the three different devices in the Smart Security line of power switches have very basic, cut and clear programming but they could be employed for safeguarding your aquarium against common malfunctions as well.
The new Smart AWC Touch will retail for $250 with a special introductory price of $200 and the Smart Security System devices cost $60 for the skimmer and the water level versions, and $50 for the Smart Temp Security device. The final versions of AutoAqua’s newest automation gadgets will be on display this weekend at MACNA in San Diego at booth #627 and will be released later on this fall. [AutoAqua]
