The new Neptune Systems Flow Monitoring Kit (FMK) makes flow monitoring in your aquarium easier. By packaging the Neptune Flow Monitoring Module (FMM) with sensors, the company gives you everything you need to be up and running in under an hour — while saving some coin too.
Even though most pumps come with a rating and charts showing head loss, there are many other variables impacted flow rates. Every connection, bend or in-line device saps precious flow from your corals. But the Neptune FMK and FMM help give you more visibility into exactly how much flow your pumps are producing.
The heart of the Neptune FMK is the FMM we saw at MACNA in the fall. The handy unit has four ports allowing you to monitor up to four flow sensors. A nice touch is the FMM and FMK are backward compatible to earlier Apex units including the Apex Junior and Apex Classic.
In the Neptune FMK you get the FMM, a 1 in. flow sensor and two 1/2 in. sensors. The sensors are made for British standard pipe threads (BSPT), but since North America uses the NPT threading, you’ll also get connectors, two 1 in. unions and four 1/2 in. BSPT to 1/2 in. slip PVC fittings.
The 1 in. flow sensors are good for flow rates from 150-1500 GPH and the smaller 1/2 in. sensors are rated for flow rates from 30-250 GPH. You can also purchase 2 in. or 1/4 in. sensors for larger pumps and smaller applications like ATO units.
You can also purchase optional optical water level sensors and a leak detection module to monitor for flow and water levels or leaks. The new Neptune FMK retails for $199.95 and is currently shipping to LFS and online retailers.
