When I came home from ReefStock last weekend with a haul of new coral frags, I had a very different experience adding them to my tank. Normally each frag would be individually bagged, each requiring to be floated, acclimated, removed and placed to the tank individually, but this time I had a trick up my sleeve.
Printed Reefing Solutions was in Denver for ReefStock and one of the coolest things they showed off is their 3D printed Frag Carrier. I scooped up a couple of these for frag transport and I was able to place eight different frags right on the cradle, in one container.
This simplified transporter for coral frags couldn’t have made the coral-carrying experience any easier, and I was able to inspect the frags right in the jar, which wouldn’t have been possible with a frag bag. At just $15, the frag carrier is a no-brainer for frequent visitors to frag shows or trips to the LFS keeping frags in a larger combined volume of water.
The resealable frag carrier has a volume of a one quart container which is also perfect for dipping corals before placing in the aquarium. And once you’re done you can easily place the whole frag cradle sans container right on the sand bed of your aquarium, until you’re ready to place them in more permanent locations.
We’ve seen a number of massive frag carriers for the commercial vendors to transport their coral offerings, but the 8-frag Frag Carrier is really the perfect accessory to bring with you anywhere you plan to buy corals.
