You know an animal is large when people first mistake it as a grounded boat! That is exactly what happened on this beach in Maluku Province of Indonesia when they sighted a huge brownish shape bulging from the shallow waters of their shoreline.
At 15 meters, the behemoth sea creature is nearly 50 feet long and is believed to have been dead for at least three days. When you see gargantuan carcasses like these it’s easy to imagine how our ancestors truly believed in Sea Monsters and constructed stories to explain such incredible sights!
It’s too bad the huge dead giant squid hadn’t somehow been ‘available’ freshly dead because that would be the world’s bigest calamari cookoff. Meanwhile, the residents of this particular area of Maluku have asked the government for help in removing the rotting sea creature before it truly stinks up the place, and probably creates significant pollution in their local waters.
