You could be hard pressed to see the difference between an Adonis and Hallucination Zoanthid, or between a Walt Disney and Homewrecker Acropora tenuis, but there’s no mistaking the Caribbean corals and their unique assortment of species.
It’s always been surprising to see so much scrutiny placed on the Indo-Pacific corals while very colorful, unique and interesting corals from the Caribbean get almost no attention. Sure it doesn’t help that Caribbean stony corals are mostly off limits, but even the corals that are available don’t get much love from reefers.
Nevertheless, as fanatics of corals from all over the world, we still reserve a good amount of bandwidth to learn about Caribbean corals. Our sister site Reef Divers is currently diving deep into the diversity of Caribbean corals with a new species featured nearly every day until they all get some coverage.
If you want to see some corals that are truly different from what you’re used to, definitely take a look at the parade of Caribbean corals that are being spotlighted over at Reef Divers – it’ll make you appreciate coral diversity in general and maybe even learn some unique traits of these little known corals.
