The REEF-Roller is a new auto filter roll making its debut in the United Kingdom from Tropical Marine Centre. The two new Automatic roll filters come in two sizes with fairly different form factors.
The REEF-Roller has the ‘traditional’ horizontal layout for use in larger sumps while the REEF-Roller Compact has the novel vertical orientation. The Reef-Roller Compact is much more practical to drop into smaller sumps with a smaller footprint and design like we saw in the ClariSea fleece filter earlier this year.
Both models of the REEF-Roller use 50 micron filter rolls which are automatically turned with integrated sensors to determine when clogging has begun. They might not be modular and adjustable like the Klir filter but the compact size and two form factors should allow the REEF-Rollers to slip into a wide variety of sump sizes.
The larger REEF-Roller is priced at £189.99 or about US$250 while the smaller REEF Roller Compact RRP sells for a little bit less at £169.99 or just shy of US$225. Replacement filter rolls with a 50 micron mesh size and 45 meter length sell for about £19.99 or around $26 a piece, and the whole Reef Roller line will become available some time this winter.
