The cold weather that hit the U.S. last week is making an impact on creatures sharks as well. In a Facebook post, the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy shared some images of a pair of thresher sharks that were stranded on shore and froze, due to the cold weather.
The group is working closely with state and federal agencies like the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries and NOAA Fisheries Service, the AWSC team responded to collect the sharks along with morphometric data, organs, and tissue samples were collected to be examined.
The post generated a great deal of responses on how to help organizations like this. First off, you can contact the organization or others near you if you see any stranded sharks (living or dead). Additionally, the AWSC put together a wish list of items they can use in their shark response efforts at GOODdler. All items there are tax-deductible and you will receive a tax-receipt.
