Will Smith is a world-famous movie star who pretty much couldn’t be any more successful at life. Recently, however, you may have noticed that the ‘Fresh Prince’ started a YouTube style Vlog channel of his life and experiences puzzling content creators currently trying to make it on social video.
I too was surprised at this new development in Will Smith’s career and couldn’t help but wonder ‘why’ do this kind of low-key content creation when you’re in blockbuster movies? Reservations about the Vlog aside, this week he uploaded a very real video of his very first experience SCUBA diving.
I absolutely love how this video captures the juxtaposition of the anxiety of getting to the dive site and the reward waiting down below. Nobody likes being on a boat in crummy weather, with light rain and overcast skies, that’s why we’re REEF Divers, we want to be in tropical places!
But alas we can’t control the weather (yet) and once we’ve already made the plans to do a dive trip, we’re going down in all but the most dangerous of weather conditions. Nine times out of ten it’s an absolutely zen experience when you dive down, those bubbles first clear up and you get into that diving feeling. THIS is what Will’s video captures perfectly, especially for the uninitiated who need to relax, conquer their fear, trust in their dive guide and quite literally go with the flow.
His reverence for the ocean is well stated, there are some legitimate reasons to be intimated by the ocean, especially in Australia. But if you can conquer your fears, truly muster some of that mind-over-matter and let yourself truly enjoy the dive, it’s an unparalleled experience that most of us can never get enough of.
