In general the reef aquarium hobby has a gross misconception about where our corals come from. Sure we might know which country it came from, but our image of what a coral reef looks like, and the habitat where corals come from, is highly skewed by the kinds of images we see of coral reefs.
Just like the cover girls of fashion magazines, only the best most flattering images of wild reefs are shared and published. But there are all kinds of different reefs, and most of our corals come from areas that are very different from what divers typically see.
On their journey from wild reefs to captive aquariums, corals can change wildly in shape, color, and many other features. There’s very few people in the world who understand where corals come from, and how they change between habitats including aquariums than Bali coral farmer Vincent Chalias.
He first began giving this talk at Reefapalooza Orlando, and we found it so informative that we tapped Vincent to speak at both ReefStocks in Denver and in Australia. This is a little teaser video for those attending ReefStock Australia in Sydney next month which is just the tip of what Mr. Chalias will speaking about.
Industry and hobby veterans alike agree that this is one of the most eye-opening talks they’ve seen about aquarium corals in a long time, so you won’t want to miss this chance to see his presentation at ReefStock Australia August 11th & 12th, and to ask your burning follow up questions.
However if Australia is a little far for you to talk reef, we’ll be posting the entire presentation later this summer.
