The HydroWizard line of high performance water pumps have become the go-to device for large tanks and or displays requiring massive amounts of water flow. The two smaller ECM42 and ECM63 have been particularly popular with large reef tanks from 500 to 2000 gallons for their incredible flow speeds but a new attachment from Panta Rhei is literally going to transform the flow that these pumps produce.
The new Flow Expander is a nozzle available for all three HydroWizards, the ECM42, ECM63 and gigantic ECM75 which takes the very high speed laminar flow into lower speed and broader flow. In the process of adding the Flow Expander the volume of water moved by the pump is actually tripled, similarly to how a true eductor works.
Without any other changes, the Flow Expander simply twists into the outflow of the HydroWizard pumps, adding some length to the overall assembly, but creating water flow which is more gentle and ‘friendly’ for many types of aquatic animals. While the pumps themselves might be pricey, the Flow Expander isn’t with the version for the small HydroWizard ECM42 selling for 25€ (~$30) and for the ECM63 it’ll be around 40€ (~$45).
However the jumbo ECM75 requires titanium reinforcement to handle the stress so that attachment jumps way up to 941€ or well over $1,000. The market for HydroWizards is pretty niche but also very loyal so HydroWizard users and owners should be pretty stoked about this new feature-attachment which goes on sale this week from Panta Rhei.
