We hope we’re not coming at you with too many videos this week because we’re in the pocket and going to ride it until we get caught up with a ton of exciting topics. Next up is our first coral unboxing in the Reef Builders Studio with a nice sampling of Premium Coral Frags from Eye Catching Coral.
Before we continue, it’s important to make it clear that ECC is wholesale only, so hobbyists cannot order directly from them. If you like the corals & frags you see, you’ll have to ask your LFS to get in touch with Eye Catching Coral. With that out of the way, we’ve been keeping an eye on the Eye Catching Coral Instagram and have been impressed by the quantity of corals they culture, and just how clean each coral and their bases are.
It might seem like a minor detail, but plenty of coral farmers grow their frags in what we would call a probiotic environment – this means lots of sponges, tubeworms, and algae, especially algaes. The thing is, many frag farming setups use surgeonfish and other grazers to keep the algae down, but what happens when the grazers are removed?
Well if algae and other critters are embedded in the disc or plug, those things will just grow out into your tank over time. Case in point is that lots of people have great looking cultured corals and frags these days, but to stand out against the competition they need to be good size, better color, and without any ‘funk’ growing on the base to spread in future reef tanks.
Big thanks to Eye Catching Coral for helping to bring some life to the new Reef Builders Studio, we received lots of great coral strains in the box and we can’t wait to grow them out. Definitely stay tuned to the YouTube channel as we have lots of great corals on the way, and many more videos to help you get your reef aquarium fix.
