Lord corals are some of the reef aquarium hobby’s favorite group of LPS for many very good reasons; they are colorful, have crazy patterns, they are hardy, they grow well, and they are very responsive to aquarium conditions and will show it when they are being well cared for.
Micromussa lordhowensis, formerly classified as an Acanthastrea species are also very widespread throughout the Indo-Pacific with excetional abundance and diversity on both coasts of Australia in particular. We’ve seen so many Aussie lord corals that it’s easy to spot colonies and strains that are either from Indonesia or ‘elsewhere’.
Today’s feature is a showcase of Micro Lords from ‘Asian Islands’ being offered for sale by Japan’s Coral Monster. There’s been a small amount of similar Micro Lords very occasionally exported from Vietnam – there’s some ambiguity as to their legality to be exported but we’re not here to sleuth the law, only to appreciate some beautiful & novel colors of this now classic aquarium coral.
Whether these lords came from Vietnam, or are part of a trickle from Malaysia or elsewhere one thing is sure – these are some beautiful and very different looking strains of Micromussa lordhowensis from their Australian counterparts.
