The Eco Fleece Dreambox is Royal Exclusiv’s first standalone auto filter roll which we first sighted at InterZoo earlier this year and which has just appeared for sale on their website. Royal Exclusiv’s first foray into the Auto Filter Roll space was by incorporating their ‘Fleece Filter’ design into giant, custom Dreambox sumps.
Now that the Eco Fleece Dreambox is available as a standalone device we can truly compare it to auto filter rolls available in the aquarium hobby. This new auto filter roll is one of the largest and highest capacity filters of its type (for aquariums, not ponds) with a maximum flowrate equal to several of the current models by other manufacturers put together.
For starters the Eco Fleece Dreambox is not at all like the small footprint auto filter rolls meant to drop into existing consumer size sumps – it’s a large box on its own which is meant to compliment existing high capacity filter systems, either internally or running outside of a sump. It has the dimensions of 34 cm wide x 60 cm length x 57 cm, or 13.4 x 24 x 23 inches. When full the Eco Fleece Dreambox holds 85 liters (23 gallons) and it can accomodate a massive flowrate of up to 12,000 liters per hour, or just over 3,000 gph.
Royal Exclusiv has accomplished not only by building a much larger auto filter roll with a huge filtering area, but also by including a programmable period and interval timer. Most current ATRs use a simple float switch to trigger the advancement of the filter roll, but this only spools new clean material until the float switch is deactivated.
The biggest difference in funactionality of the Eco Fleece Dreambox is that with the programmable timer, you can set how the sensitivity of the float advances filter paper. The real progress is here is that you can fine tune this filter to replace all of the used/dirty fleece roll with new material – this is dependent on your flowrate and ensures maximum removal of filtered debris and detritus.
If you haven’t used an Auto Filter Roll yet this important feature may not be crystal clear but trust us, it means this machine is really fine tuned to maximize how much water it can filter and export unwanted nutrients. Whereas the Royal Exclusiv sumps, pumps and skimmers definitely carry a premium tax, somehow we feel that the 1297€ ($1468) price tag actually represents a pretty good value for what the Eco Fleece Dreambox can do, especially since there is no other Auto Filter Roll on the market that can match this level of performance.
