We love our emojis and while many people don’t read into them too much, there are others that take emojis way too seriously! However, we did appreciate the Monterey Bay Aquarium trolling Apple for their anatomically incorrect squid emoji.
Now wait…aren’t all emojis the same? While they are based on Unicode text, different platforms interpret them in different ways so what it looks like on your iPhone is different from what you see on Facebook, etc.
So why the beef? Seems Apple’s squid emoji is befuddling the scientific community and the MBA team sent out a hilarious tweet pointing out the fact that upside down, and the she siphon should appear behind this cute emojis head, not on his face.
The siphon, described as a “muscular structure located on the ventral surface of the mantle,” does two things — helps the squid breathe and also discharging wastes from its body.
So you can imagine the chuckles from people imagining squids having to discharge his poo on their face vs. behind its head.
Bonus points for the ASCII art! See the great exchange below.
