Although many of us hardcore hobbyists might be never be caught alive in a big box store, there is definitely a time and a place, and Petco is making a better case with a new “buy online, pick up in-store” option.
Like other major retailers that have opened the online catalogue up to local delivery, Petco hopes to leverage this to add new customers and increase how much customers spend while picking up their goodies.
This also helps take out some of the logistical issues with home delivery — package bandits, returning damaged products, etc. — as the items are held securely at the store and it gives you the option to resolve any payment of product disputes on the spot.
Sadly, this is another hurdle the LFS might have to face in staying relevant in our modern economy.
