The Maxum Battery Air Pump is a new air mover from JBJ with a whole lot more going for it than the luft and whisper pumps of old. Most notably, the DC air pump is powered by an internal rechargeable battery that can last much longer than the bait bucket air pumps we used to use in emergencies.
The JBJ Maxum uses 10 watts to deliver up to 40 gallons per hour of air every hour and it can automatically switch to its internal backup battery in the event of a power failure. At full power the JBJ Maxum can easily last 24 hours but can be switched to a special interval mode that runs 15 seconds on, 15 seconds off, to stretch the overall aeration time to 48 hours on battery alone.
There’s dual air outputs on the JBJ Maxum and a few onboard buttons with accompanying LED indicators lets users adjust the various modes, switch to interval mode and to turn the pump on and off. The Maxum air pump with built in back up battery will be available from JBJ later this month for $89, more than you’d pay for a basic bait bucket air pump but in the event of a power outage, will be well worth the peace of mind knowing your aquarium has life giving aeration.
