The Reef Builders studio has been humming along with the addition of three new reef tanks! In today’s episode of the Reef Builders vlog Jake gives us a tour of his new 40 Gallon LPS Reef Tank.
This tank contains moon corals, Acanthastrea, Goneastrea, War coral, Favia, Platygyra, and a favites coral corner with some wicked sweeper tentacles.
The tank is a Nuvo ext 40 external overflow aquarium by innovative marine, lit by a Kessil A360 X with a narrow reflector. The system plumbed in together with a calcium reactor and larger sump and tank.
This tank also features a very unique coral called Barabattoia which resembles a Caulastrea candy cane coral, although the difference is the tissue extends down the stalk of the coral. Jake has three growth forms of this coral in the tank a one of a kind display. Since posting this video, Jake has since let me know this coral is now in the Barabattoia Genus is not reclassified as Favia, none the less still an interesting cluster.
What’s interesting about this tank is these corals all have a low flow demand so there is no powerhead in the tank. Instead Jake mentioned he is using his firefish for flow!
We hope you enjoyed this video. Make sure to like and subscribe to the Reef Builders YouTube Channel. On the next episode, Jake will give us a tour of his Euphyllia garden. Stay Tuned!
