Missing some of your favorite public aquariums? Or just need to keep busy?
We’ve put together a list of seven public aquariums offering engaging virtual content. This list includes a few live cams, (don’t miss the Anthias Cam), and much more!
Overall The Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach California has to be my favorite public aquarium website for live cams. Top marks to the anthias cam, with relaxing bubbling sounds, and curious anthias coming up to the camera lens.
The Tropical Reef Cam from the Aquarium of the Pacific features a wide-angle shot of a large saltwater display. Both video feeds are high quality and i’ve caught myself leaving one or the other running in the background for hours.
As a bonus the Aquarium of the Pacific videos are not hosted on their own website, instead, they are located on the website Explore.org. Below the aquarium live cams, you can choose between dozens of equally stunning live videos.
This online aquarium activity list goes way beyond live cams. We’ve also selected educational links from each aquarium including, school learning portals, Live videos with marine biologists, pre-recorded videos, and educational blog content.
Aquarium of the Pacific
One of my favorite Live Cams in the Aquarium of the Pacific tropical reef tank. Check it out on the Explore.org platform, featuring a ton of other ocean live cams. You can’t miss the Aquarium of the Pacific Anthias Cam, or watch this older YouTube anthias video.
Steinhart Aquarium – California Academy of Sciences
Discover what scientists are finding in the ocean depths in the mesophotic ‘twilight zone’. Learn more about color in the twilight zone, or what the pressure is like in these deep tropical reefs. The mesophotic zone is below recreational diving limits and above where you would send a submersible, between 200-500 feet deep.
While on the California Academy of Sciences website you can also visit the Philippines coral reef cam. It’s easy to get lost in all the great content available from Steinhart and the Academy.
Birch Aquarium at Scripps
For the first time ever, Birch Aquarium has bred and successfully hatched two rare Weedy Seadragons. Only a handful of aquariums around the world have bred this unusual fish. Watch a video and learn more about the Birch Aquarium Weedy Seagradong breeding programs.
Monterey Bay Aquarium
Tune in to one of the many live cams at the Monterey Bay Aquarium including the coral reef cam, jelly cam, kelp cam and more. You can also find education portals to keep kids busy and learning.
Seattle Aquarium
Learn about marine creatures of the Pacific Northwest with the Seattle Aquarium video library.
Georgia Aquarium
Relax as eagle rays, Mobula rays, reef sharks and whale shark glide in and out of frame in the Ocean Voyager exhibit at the Georgia Aquarium.
Did you know this tank has over 6.3million gallons of water! You can also learn more about the 50+ species in this exhibit with informative links on the ocean voyager live cam page.
Shedd Aquarium
Stop what you’re doing and take a look at these adorable penguins exploring the Shedd Aquarium! Asides from the waddling rockhoppers, the Shedd is also sharing daily behind the scenes footage on their Facebook page.
We hope you enjoy exploring some of our favorite digital aquarium portals!
