Sea Dwelling Creatures a popular wholesale provider of live fish, corals and inverts on the west coast has announced they are suspending their operations according to material Reef Builders has reviewed. The current health situation led to the closure with airline flight cargo capacity shrinking some 90% in some areas. The resulting decrease made it near impossible to import livestock to the country and to other points of distribution.
Several leading airlines have significantly cut capacity with the world’s largest airline American Airlines shrinking 75% of their international fleet; Qantas a popular option for the South Pacific suspending their entire international flight network. These changes have impacted the amount of cargo they can carry across vast distances.
The aquatics industry as a whole has grown significantly in the past 3 months because of the current health crisis. Hobbyists are stuck at home working and building out reef tanks of all sizes. However, livestock originating outside of countries will be increasingly difficult and thus we suspect prices from imported pieces will continue to climb. Sea Dwelling has plans to reopen once the flight network returns to some sort of normal.
