Please remember about humans!
Garden eels are notoriously shy creatures. While scuba diving, as your approach sandy garden eels patches, you see little eels heads slowly retract into their burrow. It is nearly impossible to get a closeup glimpse of these slender animals.
However, when garden eels are kept in a public aquarium habitat they become accustomed to hundreds of people passing by their home each day. With all the activity around they start spending the day with heads pokes high outside of their holes.
Given the recent lockdowns, aquarium curators have got creative, giving animals aquarium tours, and publishing virtual aquarium activities, but video calling lonely eels now we’ve seen it all!
After reading through the translated website we found all the details you need to call in. The announcement posted to the Sumida Aquarium website reads. From Sunday, May 3rd to Tuesday, May 5th, 2020, we will urgently hold the “Emergency event! Garden eel face show festival!”
The disappearance of the Garden eels made it difficult for the breeding staff to confirm whether they are in good health, whether they are healthy, whether they are thin, and whether they are sick. The aquarium noticed the new behavior without the presence of humans and wish the eels would not dive into the sand when they approach.
Therefore, in an effort to habituate the eels to the presence of humans the aquarium developed this new project “spotted garden eel us please do not forget the presence of a human being.”
