The Mobius control app was designed to work directly with Ecotech Marine products allowing an increased level of control. However, Aqua Illumination which is part of Ecotech Marine had a separate myAI app that Aqua illumination users needed to use to control their products.
According to Jay Sperandio who works at Ecotech Marine as head of sales – the Mobius control application will be able to control Aqua Illumination products. Announced in a live stream for a popular line of aquariums this morning.
The move was widely expected as users have reported similarities between the myAI app and the Mobius app for a while. Users of Aqua Illumination products should be happy with the move. This definitely confirms our suspicions with the state of the aquarium technology ecosystem report we did last year.
Mobius uses Bluetooth LE for effortless connection and is objectively better as a platform because it doesn’t require any external control box, no bridges, or internet connection and instead it enables smart devices to function intelligently. This new approach to controlling smart reef aquarium tech like lights and pump means that there’s no frustrating setup, programming, wires and all you need is a modern smartphone to control smart devices, including those from Ecotech Marine and now Aqua Illumination.
What will happen to the myAI app? It will be merged with Mobius app in the future. In a statement to Reef Builders, Ecotech Marine confirmed the move although the full timing of the move remains to be seen.
