The Reef Flare XS is a new diminutive LED aquarium light that will button up the low end of Reef Factory’s Reef Flare LED light catalog. The XS version of the Reef Flare appears to be roughly the same size as the Reef Flare S (small) but instead of holding 16 LEDs it seems to be populated with just nine.
This limited number of diodes in the Reef Flare XS is colored with white and several shades of blue for a reef-centric color spectrum but does away with the accessory red and green colors. Presumably this reduced number of LEDs will deliver a commensurately smaller amount of power and might enable this light to be passively cooled.
Since the 16 LEDs of the Reef Flare S have an average power output of just over four watts each for a total of 70 watts, calculations reveal that the nine light emitters of the Reef Flare XS will probably deliver around 40 watts. Unless Reef Factory is aiming to turn the Reef Flare XS into an entry level light, we expect the XS Reef Flare will sport the same programming, control and connectivity but we’ll have to wait for an official announcement to discover where this light fits into the broader aquarium lighting market.
