Kevin Kohen has decided to part ways with Live Aquaria the company he helped grow into a major eCommerce player in the specialty aquatics market per a social media post. Kevin was always interested in fish. His interest in rare and exotic fish was evident when he and his team came up with Divers Den a what-you-see-is-what-you-get experience (the first of its kind in the industry) where consumers could see their livestock before it arrived at their doorstep.
Kevin was responsible for bringing in some of the rarest fish including our favorite peppermint angelfish. In addition, Kevin was instrumental in building an in-house aquaculture system without using crazy names to describe the corals or marketing tactics to sell the corals. Kevin tells us he plans to recharge before diving into his next chapter.
The parting from the company is not out of the blue and expected by industry insiders. Live Aquaria was part of Fosters and Smith a large player in the larger dog and pet category which sold to Petco in 2014.
Live aquaria were part of that deal – however, Petco planned to go public and later divested their Live Aquaria business to a holding group owned by Tropical Fish International. Petco went public in an IPO earlier this year.
