Ceda Skimmer is an interesting protein skimmer manufacturer from a country that we don’t hear nearly enough about in the aquarium world, Korea. Ceda makes a truly wide range of protein skimmer models that all seem to share the same emphasis on small footprints while keeping an elegant, minimal design a high priority.
The design of the Ceda Monster skimmers are so minimal in fact that at first we really struggled to determine where the outflow was and how water level is controlled – it turns out a simple acrylic rod connects to a bottom mounted control ‘shutter’ of sorts. We also enjoy that they make air driven nano skimmers in the same vein as the original Mame glass skimmers, the mid-size models are completely square to fit in the most micro of sumps, while the largest models adhere to a strictly circular, cylindrical design language.
The smaller models mostly feature basic AC needle wheel pumps while the larger units are powered by controllable DC pumps but we’re not sure exactly what brand they are using. The Ceda Skimmer website has a listing of all of their offerings and technical specifications, and their prices seem to be pretty reasonable considering their hand crafted nature and interesting designs.
The images on the official website are a little on the small side so it’s challenging to discern more about their engineering and performance but their product catalog is much better documented on the Ceda Skimmer instagram page. In a time when ‘major brands’ have stopped trying to innovate and are content to slap their label on Chinese commodity aquarium products of varying quality and dubious value, seeing a brand new catalog of novel protein skimmer designs is like a breath of fresh air. We’re not sure how Ceda mostly evaded out radar for nearly five years but now that we’ve taken notice we are looking forward to seeing and testing them for ourselves one day.
