Chinese pump manufacturing giant Jebao has added a new pump to its Jecod range. Six models make up the new MDP return pump range with adjustable flow rates from 2500-10000lph/660-2642gph. All have a fresh new look for 2022 with a clear volute and a better-looking, slimmed-down wired controller. Sine wave technology is employed for less noise, cooler running, and reduced power consumption along with a marine safe ceramic impeller shaft. All models are amphibious, meaning you can run either in or out of water.
Download the Jebao app and MDP then becomes programmable via your phone, and the same app will also control Jebao’s wireless doser and wave pumps. Power can be adjusted down from 100-30% with timer functionality and automatic power-off protection.
Jebao polarizes the reefing community with some seeing the brand as having a lot of features for the money while others vilifying them for shameless copies and high return rates. In an industry where looks matter, the new color scheme and Wi-Fi control combined with Jebao’s low price points will no doubt appeal to reefkeepers while keeping Jebao’s technical and visual spec up to speed with their competitors. There’s no denying you get a lot of pump for the money.
This isn’t the first Wi-Fi Jebao return pump either, with the similarly bright, similar spec MDC return pumps launching a while ago. If you know Jebao/Jecod you’ll be familiar with the many letter changes as new products roll out and replace previous ones. But the wired controller does look new, with more visual cabinet appeal than before and despite identical tooling being used for the pump construction itself, this is the least Jebao-looking Jebao pump we’ve seen in a while.
The Jebao company has a considerable OEM customer base too, manufacturing pumps for some well-known brands in the aquarium and water gardening markets. It’s often seen as one of the go-to Chinese factories for companies that require a ready-made pump range without the R&D costs, and who are happy to put your sticker on their own pumps for a quick launch.
The advantage to companies is speed without tooling costs, but the disadvantage is competing with other Jebao OEM pumps that are basically identical to your own, and not being in total control of every stage of design and manufacture. So if you see a branded pump that looks like it’s a Jebao, it’s because it probably is.
Pricing is from £104.99-£178.99/ $142.07-$242.21, depending on the model.
