The Reef Delight NicoBAR kicked off a new wave of reef aquarium LED striplighting and they’re doubling down on the form factor with a new line called the UltraBAR. Designed to be modular the UltraBAR is only available in multiples of 12 inch strips which are linkable via hardware clips and wired connections to erect up to a six foot long strip of powerful, controllable lighting.
The other big departure from the original NicoBAR which are single channel of control is that the UltraBAR has three channels of color control within each striplight module. The spectrum of the UltraBAR can be fine tuned and is spread across Channel 1 for deep blue lighting between 395 and 440nm, Channel 2 is populated with mid range blues from 450 to 470nm and the third channel rounds out the spectrum with 480nm, 20K and 5K LEDs.
Up to seven of the modular UltraBARs are powered by a single controller which themselves can link up to a Gateway module to connect to the Reef Delight app via bluetooth so you can dial in each channel to your desired spectrum and overall intensity. Each module is 18 watts so the individually lenses LEDs will each run in the sweet spot of two watts per diode for maximum efficiency of light output and longevity over the life of the 12″ modular striplight.
We don’t yet know how much the Reef Delight UltraBARs will cost for each component but since you can pick and choose the exact length you need for your reef tank you’ll really be able to size the entire assembly for your specific needs. Reef Delight is planning to launch full details and pricing at AquaShella Dallas so be sure to stop by their booth if you find yourself at the aquarium festival in Texas next month.
