Dupla has released what they say is the world’s first ornamental fish food to contain hemp. Dupla Marin Gel-o-drops 24 Algae & Hemp are individually packaged gel portions containing sea lettuce and 4% hemp. The hemp provides vegetable protein, amino acids, and unsaturated fatty acids according to Dupla brand owners Dohse only you won’t see your fish get spaced out as the variety of hemp used is THC free. Apart from the novelty factor hemp is a sustainable crop so we expect to see it used both in human and animal feeds more and more in the future. The raisin-like format of the food is interesting though, and there’s something about wet food that conjures up more nutrition and better-preserved nutrients than dried-out, flattened-out flake, but this is a purely personal perception. A sinking food, one “drop” will feed 5-10 fish, and we can imagine ourselves pressing and smearing it into rocks to provide enrichment for grazers too.
The Gel-o-drop formula continues with Gel-o-drops 24 Krill & Proteins containing salmon oil, krill, and green-lipped mussels and if the fish are small enough its manufacturers say they will be able to feed on a single drop throughout the day and hence have a 24 day supply. Large, greedy fish will probably just steal the whole thing and devour it in seconds, however.
Gel-o-drops Weekend and Holiday Marine
The gel drop formula has been toughened up to last not one day but up to 6 or even 14 days with Gel-o-drops Weekend Marine and Holiday Marine. The same, individually packaged formula for freshness but these ones take a week or two to break up and get munched without polluting the water, say its makers. There are such a lot of foods on the market but these do stand out for being different, and not solely for the cannabis leaf displayed on the packaging.
