If you want to find the best and most interesting corals in the world you’ve got to cast a wider net, beyond just your LFS or local reefing group online. Aquarium events are one great place to encounter a wide range of corals from so many different vendors and it’s with this mission in mind that we created ReefStock all the way in Sydney Australia.
In addition to meeting and spending time with everyone in the Australian reef aquarium community ReefStock Australia is well known for having some of the best corals in the world and this year we happened to score a couple unforgettable colonies for ourselves. The fruit salad/splatoon chalice pictured above is just one of the most colorful of the corals we hand picked when we stopped by Ultra Coral Australia but we also scored some branching Leptoseris, an orange Cycloseris ‘tree’, an orange Cantharellus, and the most unique yellow colored Bowerbanki we’ve ever laid our eyes on.
Instead of doing the typical unboxing with all the monotony and repetition that usually entails we just laid out all the corals in their own transition aquarium and showed them off all at once with some background about each piece and why got it. The yellow Bowerbanki and rainbow chalice corals are obvious corals to look out for but there’s some real oddballs in the mix which we’ve been looking to add to our collection for the longest time.
