The Biorb Earth from Oase is an All in One vivarium so advanced that it’s really giving us AIO envy in regards to other offerings on the aquarium side of the air-water interface. This being a saltwater aquarium website you might be wondering why we’re talking about a terrarium or vivarium but once you hear about what Biorb Earth all in one has going for it you’ll also be wondering why it seems so much more thought out than many aquarium counterparts.
The All In One aquarium has been an incredibly important mainstay of the aquarium hobby since the introduction of some really popular kits like the Oceanic Biocube, JBJ NanoCube and Red Sea Max. To this day the All in One category has become such a huge part of the reef aquarium market that almost all companies are aiming to offer an AIO of their own with many companies adapting the concept to larger full-on aquarium displays that include nearly everything you need to get set up.
A couple weeks ago we were in the booth of Oase and found ourselves drawn to a very stylish cube shaped aquarium with elegantly curved acrylic glass and rounded corners that really came across as modern and original. Once we looked a little closer we noticed all kinds of sensors and misters and no less than four different lighting bays to provide lighting spectrum from ultraviolet all the way to infrared, useful for warming the vivarium and the reptile or amphibians that might be kept inside of it.
The Biorb Earth vivarium can automatically provide the ideal spectrum for a wide range of terrestrial plants and animals and it can also adjust humidity either through a fine direct mist or a gentle vapor of water. There’s also a bottom mounted substrate heating cable system that can ensure that the entire habitat is the proper temperature and everything from the temperature to the humidity to the lighting can be controlled using a single app for programming each of these key parameters.
While it’s possible for reefers to create their own all in one aquarium setup with the same degree of flexibility and smart features we struggle to conjure up a similar Aquarium AIO that manages all of the environmental conditions as holistically as the Biorb Earth does for the Vivarium space. Biorb has always been associated with a certain degree of premium in their concept aquariums and terrariums but the Biorb Earth takes it up a notch with a price tag of $1840 for the privilege of all the bells and whistles it provides.
It’s no secret that reef aquariums can be one of the most expensive hobbies to get into but despite this it seems like most manufacturers of AIO reef tanks try to create very price conscious products. But if Biorb can convince some of their users to invest in a 20 inch cube just shy of two thousand dollars, for sure we’d like to see some AIO aquariums with the same level of sophistication and attention to detail in as the Biorb Earth has neatly condensed into a terrestrial all in one setup.
