Eshopps continues injecting fun into the nano reef hobby with the launch of two new DeskMate aquarium models. The 9-gallon Peninsula style Florida and 7-gallon mini Drop-off style Mariana share all the design features of the DeskMate 4.8 gallon AIO that launched last year including cast acrylic construction, orange base that glows under blue light and the simple but effective rear filter compartment design, complete with 120GPH return pump, a 2.75” wide filter sock, and room for a tiny protein skimmer, (not included.)
The two new fun shapes offer nearly twice the volume of the original and come complete with a euro brace for extra strength around the top. We have seen some mini-drop-offs incorporate a drawer or even a sump in the space under the step, but Eshopps has opted for the standard AIO filter chamber and omitted the LED light from the packages on these two. DeskMate is marketed as suitable for freshwater fish too, although we would like to have seen a lid included to help stop small fish from jumping out, and a light.
Take the marine route, add a light and heater and you’re pretty much ready to roll, or go the whole hog and pimp these funky little tanks with a mini skimmer, wavemaker, third-party net lid, and an Auto Top Off. Tiny tanks like these mean that you can decorate and stock them at a minimal cost, and we always enjoy seeing the creatives get to work on what is a very restricted (but inviting,) reef space.
Florida measures 18x11x10” and is priced at $269.98. Mariana measures 15x11x15” and is priced at $289.98.
