Looking back through the archives, 2011 was quite the year for NPS enthusiasts as Managing Editor Jake Adams and contributor Joost De Vries covered over a dozen Azoox (azooxanthellate,) corals, as well as some stunning home aquariums that were dedicated to them.
The spell-binding tanks of Marcy’s Reef, uhuru, and Mike Cao are probably unequaled to this day, 13 years later. But the chilly 55 degrees (12.8 Celsius!) 400-gallon temperate Azoox tank by Steve Weast, complete with Oregon native anemones, Boxfish, Hulafish, and Catalina gobies took Azoox tanks to the next level. At the same time, a lot of us who live in cooler climbs wondered if we shouldn’t look a bit closer to home when pondering our next saltwater challenge.
Steve Weast visited Jake and the Reef Builders Studio in 2022 and was also featured on an episode of Reef Therapy.
