For most of us, our tanks are just a few months or a few years old, with small frags and still many new tank issues. So it was refreshing to see a tank that was not just large at ten feet long, it was well established too, and had been running for some twenty years as the main inspirational display in an Australian store called Fish World.
Despite its age, the tank was in good condition with healthy fish, and some interesting clean-up crew like sea cucumbers, but the stars of the show were definitely the native Australian corals like the huge (fish-eating) Bubble Coral, the Elegance, and the Long Tentacle Plate Coral that would dwarf the average sized reef aquarium and would struggle to even fit once fully extended.
We don’t often see such large LPS corals Stateside and we think their health was bolstered by the relatively short shipping time from the Great Barrier Reef and a luxury for those who don’t live on the coast – natural seawater. And again, despite its large size, the tank is simply set up, running on readily available products and with no secret sauce. Fish World’s Andy Tran gave us a full tour of this effective display.
