The Forever Reef Project, based in Australia, hopes to collect, propagate, and sequence every coral on the Great Barrier Reef and beyond to create a living coral ark akin to the World Seed Vault.
So far, they’ve collected 138 of the 415 species found on the Great Barrier Reef. Dr. Charlie Veron, the former Chief Scientist at AIMS, the Australian Institute of Marine Science, stated, “Without question, this is the most important project we can be undertaking for corals and coral reefs.”

The process the Forever Reef Project hopes to achieve with each species they collect.
