With the cold and snow that many reef keepers are experiencing this week, one’s thoughts may naturally turn to Spring. Attending Reef Retreat at Roger Williams University this June, sitting on the water in Bristol, RI sounds particularly appealing. While the scenery is grand, the education and camaraderie is paramount. A fun weekend surrounded by fellow reef keepers is calling.

Unlike trade shows where you can simply show up and partake of exhibitors and speakers, this is a space limited event. When you come to Reef Retreat, it includes two days of workshops, meals, overnight accommodations and evenings full of discussions. Don’t wait to sign up as fewer than 2 dozen seats remain.

With a weekend dedicated to education, you can expect a bevy of excellent presenters. Catch up on the latest research from academics and understand how it applies to the hobby. Learn from reef keeping experts and catch a speed talk from an advanced hobbyist. Unlike aquatic trade shows, there are no coral frags here or dry goods to buy, but you can have dedicated one on one Q&A time with the sponsors. Scheduled presenters include:
- Vincent Chalias
- Tia Davis
- Lena Fitzgerald
- Todd Gardner
- Steve Hartter
- Sanjay Joshi
- Todd LaJeunesse
- Joseph Pawlick
- Richard Ross
- Abagail Scro
- Joe Yaiullo

Should you wish to extend your stay in the region, there are a couple of additional opportunities exclusively for Reef Retreat attendees. Transportation is not provided for these engagements, but you can certainly track down a fellow reefer through the communities space and coordinate a ride.
- Wednesday, June 3rd – Free admission to the Long Island Aquarium
- Thursday, June 4th – Visit the Marine Magnet High School and see their operations (limited to 40 attendees)
Details about these extracurricular activities, as well as tickets to Reef Retreat are available at https://reefretreat.org.
