uniquecorals “Sneak Pique” tomorrow offers SoCal reefers first glimpse into new facility

By on Jul 20, 2012

uniquecorals will be holding its “Sneak Pique” event on Saturday, July 21, to show the new company’s Van Nuys, CA, facility to the public. Open from 10 am to 4 pm, the one-day event is described as, “The chance to  get acquainted with our local So Cal reefing community,” said Joe Caparatta, who along with partner Scott Fellman, and Johnny Ciotti  hope to introduce the local reefers to what will soon be an extremely busy facility.

With a large inventory of coral frags,  attendees will have the opportunity to purchase livestock before the website goes live around August 1.  Unique intends to convey their mantra of “conscientious, sustainable, responsible” throughout their business model, including the US debut of sustainably collected, eco-labeled fish from Eco Aquariums PNG along with a variety of other livestock from what Fellman describes as, “A wide variety of sustainably-minded collectors, propagators, and breeders.”

On top of meeting some of the sharpest minds in the hobby and getting some great products, uniquecorals is giving everyone who purchases from them Saturday a 10% discount on all purchases from uniquecorals for the remainder of 2012.

The event also features a raffle, with prizes from Karen Talbot art, Ecoxotic, Tru Lumen LED, Warner Marine, Ret Talbot Photography, Dr. Tim’s and MACNA 2012.  All  proceeds from the raffle will be donated to Coral Restoration Foundation. The facility is located at 16111 Covello Street, Van Nuys, CA.

The event at Unique Corals was a genuine Southern California reefer reunion! I was impressed by the staff they have on hand, as well as a unique setup. I can see how this type of facility can help hobbyists obtain healthy and sustainably managed products. Cudos to these guys!
