The white bar maculosus is a curious captive strain of the classic yellow blotched Pomacanthus maculosus. The white bar mac is only available to import from a marine fish breeding enterprise in Taiwan called Marine Fish Taiwan. We are uncertain as to whether this strain is the result of select few pairs being bred or if they make up some of the offspring of the regular yellow bar maculosus angelfish that they breed. We have only seen this fish available in the U.S. for the past few months but the specimens we’ve seen have been down right gorgeous. It’s not just the bar which is white but the tail and all other formerly yellow markings have also been replaced with white. This new strain of the maculosus angelfish is still pretty rare and they command about twice the price of a regular yellow bar maculosus.
