Richard Pyle is the pre-eminent fish nerd, deep diver extraordinaire. In this illuminating video Dr. Pyle talks about what it’s like to do really deep dive and the focus it takes to cacth elusive fish at those depths. Richard’s main interest is in the twilight zone between 200 and 600 feet where deepwater reefs abound with a multitude of undiscovered species.
Pyle’s tool of the trade is the closed circuit rebreather which allows users to dive deeper and longer, two attributes which are very useful for diving to a brain numbing 400 feet. Check out the video for some awesome Donald Duck diving moments and lots of clips of the rarest fish in the world which are discovered at a rate of 7 new fish per hour. Be sure to read the follow up interview for even more details on what Dr. Pyle is all about.
