While perusing the store rooms of LiveAquaria in Wisconsin this past weekend, we spied this unusual 400 watt mogul fixture from Aqua Medic which we had never seen before. This fixture is unusual in being a 400 watt light and a mogul base as nealy all of Aqua Medic’s metal halide products are only for double ended lamps in the 150 or 250 watt flavor. Furthermore, the specification on this ‘400’ watt pendant actually lists a power rating of 430 watt, which is the power draw of an HQI spec’d 400 watt halide lamp. This pendant is noticeably larger than the typical DE lamp pendants, it features a large mid-section which is perforated to allow for circulation and the reflector is a of the hammertone variety. This pendant was aquired several years ago as a donation yet we have not seen any details as to a wider release of this product and with the dominance of double ended lamps over the mogul lamps of yesteryear, we do not expect that Aqua Medic will make any kind of a push to release this unique pendant stateside. It’s a shame too because once upon a time this would have made quite a nice fixture.
