The MRC aspirator valve from My Reef Creations is a finely crafted air and water mixing device. This aspirator valve is designed to suck in air for large needle wheel protein skimmer pumps. Unlike the more typical venturi valves which are designed for positive pressure and halfhazardly slapped onto needle wheel applications, a well designed aspirator valve will have that inner sleeve which extends close to the pump intake and uses negative pressure to draw in air. As we’ve come to expect from MRC’s CNC prowess, the MRC aspirator valve is machined from schedule 80 pipe a solid billet of PVC rod and it includes a threaded johnny guest fitting for quick disconnect and maintenance of the air inlet. The MRC aspirator valve pictured above is designed for the new Orca Pro I and Orca Pro II skimmers which are powered by Reeflo needle wheel pumps. The Orca Pro III will use a similar aspirator valve but with a larger overall diameter. For now the MRC aspirator will not be available separately but if enough people bug them about getting some for upgrades or DIY, they might be convinced to sell the MRC aspirator as a separate accessory. The air sucking MRC aspirator valve should be shipping with all new Orca skimmers, more detailed pictures after the break.
New aspirator “venturi” valve from MyReef Creations really sucks
