The Mazzucatto Aquarium Sculpture is simply amazing, Huge thanks to Shaun Stinnett for the story and the write up!
We spend so much time looking for the next big thing in this Industry, sometimes it is fun to see where the hobby started and the steps along the way. When Ryan Gripp posted ” A Handbook to the Marine aquarium 1856” in August, I started looking for antique Aquariums. Never did I imagine I would find this 1940/1945 “Mazzucato” aquarium. The crystal tank is held by a hefty brass frame. Covered in 42.5 grams of finely detailed silver fish, seahorses, and other forms of aquatic life. with some of them plated in gold. The piece is currently listed on eBay for a whopping $85,000 or best offer. The tank currently resides in Milan, in the same place where it was made. This piece of aquarium art will ship at 42 kilos(92.5lbs) worldwide but I wonder if it includes the filter. Follow the break for many more pics and some excerpts from the eBay listing.
It is impossible to ignore the exceptional beauty of this masterful object or deny its extraordinary design & proportion perfectly achieved in this “Mazzucato” piece. so exquisite with an ingenius variation of fish, seaweeds, seashells, corals and seahorses made with the lost wax tecnique and finely engraved for perfect detail, giving the aquarium an amazing realistic look [. . .] Agostino Mzzucato, started as a silversmith in 1935 in milan italy, in the old village colled in milanese dialect “borg dei scigulat” and has kept his factory with artisan characteristic until the present day.
