LED lighting is all the rage and with these flexible LED lights from QE Global you can inexpensively add low-heat, energy-efficient lighting to your setup. Granted, these lights may not pack enough punch to use strictly for aquarium lighting for corals and other light-intensive critters but these offer a unique way to add moonlight or accent lights to get a bit more of a shimmer effect especially around fluorescent lighting. While there are a plethora of other flexible LED lighting strips on the market, these may be the first marketed for the aquarium hobby including the Kelvin temperature ratings that make us go ga-ga. The LEDs are mounted to a flexible circuit board and sandwiched between a highly durable silicone allowing for protection from extremes of temperature and moisture. The strips also feature a double-sided adhesive tape so its just a matter of peeling the the tape off and sticking it in place. Powered by a 12VDC controller available on they site, they can run up to 5 meters of lights with a max power draw of around 36W. The strips come in four lengths of 600mm (~24 inches), 1,000mm (~39 inches), 1,500mm (~59 inches) and 2,000mm (~78 inches) and in seven color combinations (warm white 4200K, bright warm white 4200K, bright daylight 6000K, bright marine blue 9000K, blue and bright blue). These lights are available in the UK right now and run around £20-50 (~ $30-82 USD) depending on color and length. The optional controller costs £20.
