We first fell in love with Arcohelia rediviva back in May 2009 when we saw for the first time the amazing color and shape of a specimen which quickly sold from LiveAquaria’s Diver’s Den. For a few months not a single Arcohelia was imported. All was quiet on the Arcohelia beat until, jason Wong, the owner of the specimen from LiveAquaria wrote up a nice little article about his blue polyped Arcohelia which was the feature of an issue of Reef Hobbyist Magazine. That article along with it’s amazing pictures only added fuel to the fire of demand for this unique azooxanthellate stony coral from Australia. In speaking with Cherry Corals at various reefing events we learned that the high-end coral slinger was actively trying to import some of these amazing blue gems. After months of waiting and pestering Cherry Corals about this stupid coral, yesterday they let us know that they have finally succeeded in landing 10 colonies of A. rediviva. Cherry Corals will be listing a few of the primo colonies tonight for upwards of a grand for the larger ones and some medium sized colonies with equally hefty price tags. However, we know that Cherry intends to hold back a few colonies to frag into $100 bite sizes. Brett has assured us that at least one colony and a few frags will make it to the ReefStock event in March so we look forward to seeing Arcohelia in person. yum, yum.
